Back to life after a long break! What news could I bring to share with you... The world of paper dolls is full of new artists, new pages, new editions and tutorials!

I'm looking forward to share with you one of my latest acquisitions. It's a paper doll calendar for 2023 by Italian artist Marga "Blackbanshee" Biazzi.

You can visit her Instagram  or her site and you will be delighted with the amount of paper dolls she draw.  You won't regret the time you spent browsing her pages because she has an amazing and creative work of childhood illustration (adults will love it too), graphic novels and of course paper dolls with a flavour of japanese culture.

You can preview the calendar on Marga Biazzi's Instagram. The calendar features twelve paper dolls (one per month, can you imagine that?!). All the characters are zoomorphic with wonderful details, clothes and accessories that create a magical atmosphere. 

At the end you can find another kind of paper doll... a paper toy!  This calendar is a must have for any paper doll collector. Trust me, I know what I'm saying! (where did I hear that... 😏)

De volta à vida depois de uma longa pausa! O que é que eu poderia trazer de novo para compartilhar com vocês... O mundo das bonecas de papel está cheio de novidades! Novos artistas, novas páginas, novas edições e tutoriais! Estou desejando compartilhar com vocês uma das minhas últimas aquisições. É um calendário de bonecas de papel para 2023 da artista italiana Marga "Blackbanshee" Biazzi. Visitem o Instagram dela ou o site e deliciem-se com a quantidade de paper dolls que ela desenha. Não se vão arrepender do tempo que passaram nas páginas dela, porque ela tem um mundo incrível e criativo de personagens de ilustração infantil (os adultos também vão adorar), novelas gráficas e, claro, paper dolls. Podem visualizar o calendário no Instagram de Marga Biazzi. O calendário apresenta doze paper dolls (uma por mês, conseguem imaginar isso?!), todas as personagens são zoomórficas com detalhes maravilhosos, roupas e acessórios que criam um ambiente mágico. No final podem encontrar outro tipo de paper doll... um paper toy! Este calendário é obrigatório para qualquer colecionador de bonecas de papel. Confiem em mim, eu sei o que estou dizendo! (onde é que eu ouvi isto... 😏) A propósito: sabem porque é que o gato é o único animal que não aparece no calendário chinês? Eu aprendi a resposta no calendário de Marga Biazzi. Até a próxima!

(Pat) Frey has a unique style to draw paper doll. Sometimes in black and white others in colors. 

If you take a look on the web you will find some of her works most of them dated from final 70's early 80's.

Her paper doll sets are rich in details and acessoires... most of the times it has frames which gave the final touch.

Here we have couple that caught my attention. He because it is well drawn, all Greek god body. She because she has a smile and an attitude all confident on her body and we can see she isn't a Barbie type.

Lovely the ideia of using paper dolls to drive attention for some questions that are affecting to much people!

Pat Frey tem um estilo único para desenhar boneca de papel. Às vezes em preto e branco outras em cores.

Se você der uma olhada na web você encontrará alguns de seus trabalhos a maioria deles datados do final dos anos 70 início dos anos 80. Seus conjuntos de bonecas de papel são ricos em detalhes e acessórios... na maioria das vezes tem molduras que dão o toque final. Aqui temos casal que me chamou a atenção. Ele porque é bem desenhado, todo corpo de deus grego ela porque tem um sorriso e uma atitude toda confiante em seu corpo e podemos ver que ela não é do tipo Barbie. Adorável a ideia de usar bonecos de papel para chamar a atenção para algumas questões que estão afetando muita gente! #aceptyourbody

Play gals!

In the early 80's Playgirl magazine edited one book of paper dolls called Hunks. In it we could find  three men in different outfits representing different personalities: the surfer, the millionaire and the macho man. The book has several pages of costumes, clothes, accessories and settings.

For the ladies, there is a body girl where they can glue their photo and play all the fantasies with the man of their dreams!

No início dos anos 80, a revista Playgirl editou um livro de bonecas de papel chamado Hunks. Nele podemos encontrar três homens em trajes diferentes representando personalidades diferentes: o surfista, o milionário e o machão. O livro tem várias páginas de figurinos, roupas e acessórios e cenários. Para as senhoras, existe uma body girl onde podem colar a sua foto e jogar todas as fantasias com o homem dos seus sonhos!

Dress a daddy

I noticed  Jeffrey Avile's paper dolls on Instagram and they seem very cute. So, as I can't buy them because the taxes and postage are very high I will share here his samples and video.

In Dress-a-daddy paper dolls book are two paper dudes with different outfits to mix and match, reminding a 70's look.

Guido Crepax (15 July 1933 - 31 July 2003, Italy) is a bigger name of fummetti or better saying European comics or better still world comics.

His work is well known, with an endless list of titles filled with literary, political and philosophical references. 

However, what remains in our minds is the graphic representation of his female characters, in a thin, delicate and rich in detail, living in dreamlike and erotic environments, where he unreservedly exposes their sexuality to the eyes of the reader. 

His most famous character will undoubtedly be the photographer Valentina (Rosselli)! With a haircut reminiscent of Louise Brooks, she has lived for thirty-five years her adventures whose situations become increasingly compromising in surreal environments of espionage, fantasy and science fiction. Valentina will be perhaps the only cartoon character to age over the years, side by side with her creator, as her stories were published.

Crepax has been and continues to be an inspiration to many renowned artists and intellectuals as well as legions of readers around the world.

As it could not be otherwise, I share a magnificent paper doll by Guido Crepax inspired by his characters and the atmosphere of his stories.

 Guido Crepax (15 July 1933 - 31 July 2003, Italy) é um nome maior do fummetti ou melhor dizendo da banda desenhada europeia ou melhor dizendo banda desenhada mundial. O seu trabalho é sobejamente conhecido, com uma lista interminável de títulos repleta de referencias literárias, políticas e filosóficas. No entanto o que nos fica na mente é a representação gráfica dos seus personagens femininos, num traço fino, delicado e rico em detalhes  em ambientes oníricos e eróticos, onde expõe sem reservas a sua sexualidade aos olhos do leitor. O seu personagem mais famoso será sem duvida a fotografa/repórter Valentina(Rosselli)! Com um corte de cabelo fazendo lembrar Louise Brooks, vai vivendo ao longo de trinta e cinco anos as suas aventuras cujas situações se tornam cada vez mais comprometedoras em ambientes surreais de espionagem, fantasia e ficção científica. Valentina será talvez a única personagem de banda desenhada a envelhecer ao longo dos anos,ladoa a lado com o seu criador, consoante as suas histórias iam sendo publicadas. Crepax foi e continua a ser uma inspiração para muitos artistas e intelectuais de renome bem como para legiões de leitores ao redor do mundo.
