Acept your body type

(Pat) Frey has a unique style to draw paper doll. Sometimes in black and white others in colors. 

If you take a look on the web you will find some of her works most of them dated from final 70's early 80's.

Her paper doll sets are rich in details and acessoires... most of the times it has frames which gave the final touch.

Here we have couple that caught my attention. He because it is well drawn, all Greek god body. She because she has a smile and an attitude all confident on her body and we can see she isn't a Barbie type.

Lovely the ideia of using paper dolls to drive attention for some questions that are affecting to much people!

Se você der uma olhada na web você encontrará alguns de seus trabalhos a maioria deles datados do final dos anos 70 início dos anos 80. Seus conjuntos de bonecas de papel são ricos em detalhes e acessórios... na maioria das vezes tem molduras que dão o toque final. Aqui temos casal que me chamou a atenção. Ele porque é bem desenhado, todo corpo de deus grego ela porque tem um sorriso e uma atitude toda confiante em seu corpo e podemos ver que ela não é do tipo Barbie. Adorável a ideia de usar bonecos de papel para chamar a atenção para algumas questões que estão afetando muita gente! #aceptyourbody

Always pressin that line

Since I saw these paper dolls I felt I should share them here. I don't remember from where they belong. They are signed by Alejandro Saura... In my opinion they are so well drawn, all of them with different outfits which make us think what is the personality of each one.

Something in them reminds me the first paper dolls I drawn.

I wonder find more paper dolls like that.

What new year is bringing to us?

It seems to me there is a field to explore in this paper doll theme... 😉

Desde que vi estas paper dolls, senti que deveria compartilhá-las aqui. Não me lembro de onde eles pertencem. Estão assinados por Alejandro Saura ... Na minha opinião são tão bem desenhados, todos com trajes diferentes que nos fazem pensar qual é a personalidade de cada um. Algo neles me lembra as primeiras paper dolls que desenhei. Gostaria de saber como encontrar mais bonecas de papel assim. Parece-me que há um campo a explorar neste tema de boneca de papel ...

This paper doll appears to be illustrated by Ginnie Hoffmann, the well-known female artist of the no less famous Betsy McCall paper doll. This one comes from the inside pages of Esquire magazine in the 70s. The outfits and accessories to mix and match are spread in two pages.

Who was Gennie Hoffmann?

Virginia "Ginnie" Hoffmann(1920-2014) "grew up in Ohio during the years of the Great Depression. She decided early on to pursue a career as an artist and after graduating from high school spent four years at art school in Cincinnati training for her life's work. As a youngster she remembers cutting out Dolly Dingle paper dolls but admits she was more of a tomboy, into animals and typical boy activities like sports and building shacks. After graduating from art school in 1942 she worked briefly for Columbia Records in Bridgeport as an artist. She later married and began looking for work in New York and worked for a time with Seventeen, Fascination, and Mademoiselle. The work for which she would become best known, The Betsy McCall Paper Doll collection, began in 1958. Her association with the McCall company ended in in 1986 when the company decided to replace the paper doll pages in the magazine with puzzle pages. Ginnie also illustrated The Brides Recipe Page for McCall's. Ginnie had always wanted to illustrate children's books and while at McCall's she did a Golden Book with Selma Robinson which featured Betsy McCall. The art director at Golden Press, Olé Risom, later moved to Random House where he decided to publish Ginnie's book, Who wants An Old Teddy. She eventually did five teddy bear books for him, all about the same boy and his teddy. Ginnie was a long-time member of the society of Illustrators."

   Parece ser uma paper doll de Ginnie Hoffmann, a conhecida ilustradora da não menos famosa paper doll Betsy McCall. Virginia "Ginnie" Hoffmann cresceu em Ohio durante os anos da Grande Depressão. No início, ela decidiu seguir a carreira de artista e, depois de se formar no ensino médio, passou quatro anos na escola de arte em Cincinnati, treinando para o trabalho de sua vida. Enquanto jovem, ela  lembra-se de recortar as paper dolls Dolly Dingle, mas admite que era mais uma maria-rapaz, brincando com animais e divertindo-se com atividades infantis "típicas" dos rapazes, como desporto e construção de cabanas. Depois de se formar na escola de arte em 1942, trabalhou brevemente para a Columbia Records em Bridgeport como artista. Mais tarde, casou-se e começou a procurar trabalho em Nova York e trabalhou por algum tempo com a Seventeen, Fascination e Mademoiselle. Mr. Tom Tierney's work never ceases to amaze me. 

 

One of these days I was on the web looking for news about paper dolls and suddenly my eyes were caught by this paper doll by Andre Agassi, a famous tennis player from the late 80's. I can't tell you to much about Andre Agassi. I only remember to see him on the pages of german Bravo magazine, but I couldn't read because I didn't know a word of german. I only bought the magazine because I followed another artist who filled the pages of Bravo.

 

At that time his haircut was fashion... that's why I noticed him. I was just a teenager who would like a haircut like him!

 

 I can't say to much about it, I only know that it was printed in Tennis magazine in the July 1991 issue, but I'm sure you enjoy it as much as I do.

O trabalho do Sr. Tom Tierney nunca pára de me surpreender. Um dia destes eu estava na web procurando novidades sobre paper dolls e de repente meus olhos foram atraídos por esta paper doll de Andre Agassi, um famoso tenista do final dos anos 80. Não posso falar muito sobre Andre Agassi. Só me lembro de vê-lo nas páginas da revista alemã Bravo, mas não conseguia ler porque não sabia uma palavra em alemão. Naquela época seu corte de cabelo estava na moda ... e eu era apenas uma adolescente que gostaria de um corte de cabelo como ele! Sobre a paper doll, só sei que foi publicado na revista Tennis na edição de julho de 1991, mas tenho certeza de que gostarão tanto quanto eu. Até à proxima!

Inktober paper dolls 12th day: Sport

 The theme for the 12th day of the Inktober paper doll challenge suggested by the Miss Missy Paper dolls was: Sport. I chose the noble sport of equitation. So I leave here an amazon with her horse in a complete outfit with a little touch of romanticism.

 The theme of the 13th day will be: Robot / Space

Football player

 As we are in the time of the Fifa World Cup/ 2018 I leave you here a paper doll allusive to the football (it is without doubt a player of Benfica ... ). This illustration with inspiration in paper dolls was published in the magazine Única in 2011, a supplement of the newspaper Expresso. Unfortunately I do not have the illustrator's name to make the proper credits. 

Enjoy and cheer for Portugal's victory in this World Cup! ; )

 Como estamos na época do Campeonato Mundial de Futebol deixo-vos aqui um boneco de papel alusivo ao futebol (é sem dúvida um jogador do Benfica...). Esta ilustração com inspiração em bonecos de papel foi publicado na revista Única em 2011, um suplemento do jornal Expresso. Eu não tenho a referência do ilustrador para fazer os devidos créditos.

Clothes for George O' Mara

Hello again! 

There is another pin-up boy in the form of paper doll that I found on a postcard.

This is a 1950s vintage photo of the physical model George O'Mara, a popular 1950s bodybuilder posing for the Kris Studios (Leather Archives, Chicago) and later an actor of action movies. (I did not know about him, but I searched it up on Google and found lots of pictures of him. Hoooot!) :)

It seems to me that it was a work based on his original photo and reproduced later in Beefcake (Taschen, 1995).

Is there more about this? ;)

Olá mais uma vez! Aqui está outro pin-up boy boneco de papel que eu encontrei num postal. Esta é uma foto vintage dos anos 50 do modelo físico George O 'Mara, culturista popular dos anos 50 posando para os Kris studios (Leather Archives, Chicago) e mais tarde actor em filmes de acção.(Eu não o conhecia, mas eu procurei no Google e encontrei muitas fotos dele. Hoooot!) :)
Parece-me que é um trabalho baseado na sua foto original publicado posteriormente em Beefcake (Taschen. 1995). Será que há mais por aí? ;)

Patrizia goes skiing

From the pages of Corriere dei Piccoli #48 ( 2th December, 1962) there is another paper doll. This time it's Patrizia a girl with a  relevant sports practice wardrobe in many colours. There are many outfits for a nice playtime!

"Paper work" one of my favorite paper doll book

One of my favourite book, from my collection of paper dolls,  is Paper work with drawings by Alberto Gamón and edited by Imaginarium.

Alberto Gamón created two paper dolls with different attitudes. Both paper dolls and costumes are drawn based on geometric figures. The colour palette gives them a vintage look.

The book provides six outfits to cut and two-press out paper dolls which makes the cut easier for the little ones. The paper dolls have similar silhouette, which allows you to change the outfits. Each costume  is very detailed, has tabs to place on the doll and portrait six different works: diver, lumberjack, skier, footballer, photographer and postman.

Um dos meus livros preferidos, da minha coleção de bonecas de papel, é "Paper work" com desenhos de Alberto Gamón e editado pela "Imaginarium".

Alberto Gamón criou duas bonecas de papel com diferentes atitudes. As bonecas de papel e as roupas são desenhados com base em figuras geométricas. A paleta de cores dá-lhes um aspecto vintage.
O livro tem seis roupas para cortar e dois bonecos de papel que já vêm picotados, para facilitar o corte aos mais pequenos.Os bonecos têm uma silhueta semelhante que permite usar as roupas em ambos. Cada fato é muito bem detalhado, têm abas para se segurarem no boneco e representam seis profissões diferentes: mergulhador, lenhador, esquiador, futebolista, fotógrafo e carteiro.
