Inspired by great artists
I would like to share with you some paper dolls that I found in my archives... It's been a year since I tried, once again, to keep up with Inktober. It was created in 2009 by Jake Parker and aims to make one ink drawing a day for a month and publish it online on any social network with the hashtag #inktober or #inktober[year of the challenge]. Jake's intention was to create a sort of daily routine and develop his drawing technique. You can find some tutorials on his website. This challenge has gained thousands of followers around the world, achieving great popularity! You can also see my paper dolls from Inktober 2018. This challenge came from the Miss Missy paper dolls blog 's initiative. In 2022 I created my own list and the base paper doll. The challenge was to design an outfit, an accessory, a pair of shoes or anything inspired by the work or personality of a visual artist from the history of art.
Here it is the list for the challenge:

Rebel Rebel
I noticed James Dean's birthday it's today, February 8. I always found him an intriguing person....and cute.
"His very brief career, violent death and highly publicized funeral transformed him into a cult object of apparently timeless fascination."- in IMDb Mini Biography By: Ed Stephan[stephan@cc.wwu.edu]
I wont do any biography about James Dean... there's no need.
James Preston as James Dean in Matthew Mishory's Joshua Tree 1951: A Portrait of James Dean, 2012 |
But after seeing the movie Joshua Tree 1951: A Portrait of James Dean I searched on web and found some stories I didn't no know, but I must confess it filled my imagination...
It doesn't admires that he once said:“I am not a homosexual. But, I'm also not going to go through life with one hand tied behind my back.”
Have you ever heard about the cat and the mouse stories between him and Marlon Brando?
"When Dean was living in NYC, studying at the Actors Studio under Lee Strasberg(...)while attending a class conducted by Marlon Brando in 1951, Dean stayed after the session to meet his idol, beginning an intense sexual affair with Marlon that lasted through the winter. Dean was completely smitten with Brando, often stalking him when Marlon was out on dates with others. Dean groomed himself to become a Brando clone, copying his walk, speech and acting style." in Gay influence.blogspot.com
There is another storie with Paul Newman(and other affairs)... Once Newman went to talk with Elvis Presley[who was considered for the part of Brick, the football buddy Skipper(Paul Newman), in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof ] and" Elvis asked about Newman’s friendship with James Dean. Newman swore that Elvis told him, “I’ll make a confession. I’m about the straightest dude that ever walked the planet. But if that f*cker ever called me, I’d come running. I guess you’d say I have an obsession with Dean.” (I should made those my own words)- in Gay influence.blogspot.com
So... enough of this, let's talk about paper dolls. Paper dolls are my business!
I found some interesting paper dolls on web that I would like to share with you here... I hope you like it.

Paper doll tribute to celebrate Tom's of Finland's 100th birthday
Tom of Finland is well known for his illustrations and comics with homo-erotic content. Tom of Finland changed the mindset of generations by creating a male homosexual model against the stereotype that removes homosexuals from any aspect of masculinity.
I met Tom of Finland's work through a collection of postcards from Taschen publisher in the late 90's. Despite being impressed by the artistic and aesthetic quality of his work
Tom of Finland (2017) by Dome Karukoski |
Tom evaluated the quality of a good drawing of him if, when drawing, he felt a great erection, otherwise he would change his drawing.
His "dirty drawings" (as he called them) in graphite and Indian ink gained popularity through Physique Pictorial magazine. The exhibitions appeared, followed by public recognition. Tom of Finland is today a reference in the world of erotic art.
Paper Doll - Tom of Finland Postcard (10.5 x 15 cm) Produced by Putinki |
Here it is my contribute to the challenge launched by the Tom of Finland Foundation to celebrate the Tom of Finland's 100th birthday. I searched for references in Tom's characters and drew a male pin-up with two clothes, a tight bathing suit with a marine cap and leather pants with with boots anda a police cap (apologize for the censor smile).
Have fun!

Miss Little Cockroach
Of all these books, there is a recipe book with illustrations that I remember very well and that inspired my version of the little cockroach. This book came with a Silampos pressure cooker that my mother bought. The Silampos pressure cooker was a very useful object in the kitchen and well known at the time! These are some illustrations from the book ...
I tried different versions ... I'm still not sure about the final result but for now I share this version with you. Ladies and gentlemen I would like to present my version of Miss Little Cockroach!
