I noticed  Jeffrey Avile's paper dolls on Instagram and they seem very cute. So, as I can't buy them because the taxes and postage are very high I will share here his samples and video.

Guido Crepax (15 July 1933 - 31 July 2003, Italy) is a bigger name of fummetti or better saying European comics or better still world comics.

His work is well known, with an endless list of titles filled with literary, political and philosophical references. 

However, what remains in our minds is the graphic representation of his female characters, in a thin, delicate and rich in detail, living in dreamlike and erotic environments, where he unreservedly exposes their sexuality to the eyes of the reader. 

His most famous character will undoubtedly be the photographer Valentina (Rosselli)! With a haircut reminiscent of Louise Brooks, she has lived for thirty-five years her adventures whose situations become increasingly compromising in surreal environments of espionage, fantasy and science fiction. Valentina will be perhaps the only cartoon character to age over the years, side by side with her creator, as her stories were published.

Crepax has been and continues to be an inspiration to many renowned artists and intellectuals as well as legions of readers around the world.

As it could not be otherwise, I share a magnificent paper doll by Guido Crepax inspired by his characters and the atmosphere of his stories.

 Guido Crepax (15 July 1933 - 31 July 2003, Italy) é um nome maior do fummetti ou melhor dizendo da banda desenhada europeia ou melhor dizendo banda desenhada mundial. O seu trabalho é sobejamente conhecido, com uma lista interminável de títulos repleta de referencias literárias, políticas e filosóficas. No entanto o que nos fica na mente é a representação gráfica dos seus personagens femininos, num traço fino, delicado e rico em detalhes  em ambientes oníricos e eróticos, onde expõe sem reservas a sua sexualidade aos olhos do leitor. O seu personagem mais famoso será sem duvida a fotografa/repórter Valentina(Rosselli)! Com um corte de cabelo fazendo lembrar Louise Brooks, vai vivendo ao longo de trinta e cinco anos as suas aventuras cujas situações se tornam cada vez mais comprometedoras em ambientes surreais de espionagem, fantasia e ficção científica. Valentina será talvez a única personagem de banda desenhada a envelhecer ao longo dos anos,ladoa a lado com o seu criador, consoante as suas histórias iam sendo publicadas. Crepax foi e continua a ser uma inspiração para muitos artistas e intelectuais de renome bem como para legiões de leitores ao redor do mundo. The real romantic heroe

I remember watching the movie Solomon and Sheba when I was a kid. Of course I couldn't forget the ecstatic dance scene by Gina Lollobrigida. 

 

However I couldn't remember who King Solomon was... so looking on the web I noticed that Tyrone Power, would play the role of King Solomon but he died in a fight scene in the heat of Spain and was replaced by Yul Brynner.

 

Although I've seen some of his films, mainly with the character Zorro, I couldn't associate him with him. I decided to look it up on the web and found it very beautiful... a real movie star! 

 

This search led me to some paper dolls published in 1941 by Merrill Publishing Company, with an incredible resemblance... and it looks like he had a great closet!  😍

 

Tyrone Power and Linda Darnell were a popular film crew and most of the costumes pictured in this issue are from their film roles. For Tyrone Power some are from "The Mark of Zorro" and "Blood and Sand". Continuing to search the web it seems he has inspired some of the most highly regarded paper doll artists.

Lembro-me de assistir ao filme Solomon and Sheba quando era criança. Claro que não me poderia esquecer da cena de dança extasiada de Gina Lollobrigida. Porem eu não conseguia lembrar-me quem era o rei Salomão... então olhando na web eu reparei que Tyrone Power, faria o papel do rei Salomão mas ele morreu numa cena de luta no calor da Espanha e foi substituído por Yul Brynner. Embora eu tenha visto alguns de seus filmes, principalmente com o personagem Zorro, não consegui associá-lo a ele. Resolvi pesquisar na web e achei-o muito bonito ... uma verdadeira estrela de cinema! Essa busca me levou a alguns paper dolls publicados em 1941 pela MERRILL PUBLISHED, com uma semelhança incrível... e parece que ele tinha um ótimo armário! Tyrone Power e Linda Darnell eram uma equipe popular em filmes e a maioria dos figurinos retratados nesta edição são de seus papéis em filmes. Para Tyrone Power alguns são de "The Mark of Zorro" e "Blood and Sand". Continuando a pesquisa na web parece que ele inspirou alguns dos mais conceituados artistas de paper dolls. Até à proxima!

Today, March 8, we celebrate the International Women's Day. I wonder why the importance of these dates, when we are fighting to give all equal rights to men and women? And gender rights? However, I can recommend the work of Pénélope Bagieu the French cartoonist who inspired the comics for the TV series of the same name Brazen.

More important than gender is the way you feel and the things you do, no matter who you are or  where you are, no matter where you come from.

 I tried to find a paper doll about Christine Jorgensen. I didn't found so I will share this amazing illustration by Anita Kunz and a small bio from xtramagazine where you can find some other example of amazing womem.

  "Christine Jorgensen (1926–1989) was an American transgender woman and the first person to become famous in the United States for having sex reassignment surgery. After her Second World War military service, she began taking estrogen. Jorgensen then went to Copenhagen in the early 1950s to receive further hormone treatment and surgery. Jorgensen was greeted as a celebrity when she returned to the United States in 1953, since news of her transition had already been published. Hoje, 8 de março, comemoramos o Dia Internacional da Mulher. Eu pergunto-me por que a importância dessas datas quando estamos lutando para dar a todos os homens e mulheres direitos iguais? E os direitos de gênero?
