You are the dancing queen

In my research on paper dolls I came across the magazine

DRAG Queens: A Magazine about the Transvestite Vol. 1 No. 2 (1971)

It is curious to read the editorial that brings a message about the discrimination of other members of the same community in relation to drag queens... despite the fight for equal rights.

“Homosexual organizations feel that drag is the ‘tired’ stereotype of the gay boy and they also don’t want to be identified with the drag queen.”

“We are all homosexuals in the public eye and we should come together and stop fighting and feeling superior to each other, because who else can we turn to?”

Each person has the right to be who they are and to express themselves in the way they wish, without suffering discrimination, especially from other members of the same community.

I share with you the paper doll that was published in this issue of Drag queens magazine, which I recognize from other publications and which I have also seen used in street art. This version features, in addition to the leather look, a long dress, three wigs and accessories… for softer nights!

Pride Month, or LGBTQ+ pride month, is celebrated in June around the world as a time to celebrate diversity and inclusion. The date marks the month in which the Stonewall Rebellion took place in 1969, a milestone in the fight for the rights and equality of the LGBTQ+ community.

Despite the advances made over the years, we still see situations of discrimination, prejudice and violence against LGBTQ+ people and other minorities. The fight for equal rights, whether gender, sexuality, ethnicity or any other form of diversity, is fundamental and cannot be forgotten.

It is important that we continue to debate and raise awareness of these issues, so that society can move forward and become more inclusive and respectful of all people. Although we are still shocked by issues such as bodily exposure or the fight for basic rights, it is a sign that there is still much to be done to achieve a truly equal and fair society.

We know that individual freedom ends where the freedom of others begins, we know how far we can go, we know the limits and barriers that we must respect. However, we know that democracies are sick and we do not know for how long we can continue to use our current freedom. The uncertainty about the duration of our current freedom is worrying... so let's move forward. Let's keep waving flags and fighting for a world where everyone can live with dignity and respect!

So this blog is about paper dolls and during this month we will share some paper doll art on this topic... and who knows, maybe I'll show you something new!

Always pressin that line

Since I saw these paper dolls I felt I should share them here. I don't remember from where they belong. They are signed by Alejandro Saura... In my opinion they are so well drawn, all of them with different outfits which make us think what is the personality of each one.

Something in them reminds me the first paper dolls I drawn.

I wonder find more paper dolls like that.

What new year is bringing to us?

It seems to me there is a field to explore in this paper doll theme... 😉

Algo neles me lembra as primeiras paper dolls que desenhei.

Baby, there's no other superstar

Always looking for paper dolls or related art ... unfortunately I don't have any bibliographic references of the next paper dolls. I don't remember where I found them and don't have information about where they belong... If you know tell me. I will appreciate that.  ;-)

See you soon.

Paper doll tribute to celebrate Tom's of Finland's 100th birthday

I wish I had done this tribute to Tom of Finland (May, 8/1920 - November, 7/ 1991) earlier to celebrate his 100th birthday on May 8. Despite participating in the tribute on Instagram, I didn't have the opportunity to do it here.

Tom of Finland is well known for his illustrations and comics with homo-erotic content. Tom of Finland changed the mindset of generations by creating a male homosexual model against the stereotype that removes homosexuals from any aspect of masculinity.

I met Tom of Finland's work through a collection of postcards from Taschen publisher in the late 90's.
Despite being impressed by the artistic and aesthetic quality of his work

Tom of Finland (2017) by Dome Karukoski

I didn't memorize the artist's name until I saw a TV report that talked about him and the importance of his work in changing the mentality of a century which was approaching its end. Tom of Finland, with his art, celebrated the pleasure and the joy of relationships between healthy and muscular men who proudly display themselves in military uniforms, leather clothes or simple clothes
stretched to their bodies.

He almost never drew a full nude. A naked man was handsome, but all he had to do was put on a piece of clothing and, more than pretty, it made him sexy- Tom said.

Tom
evaluated the quality of a good drawing of him if, when drawing, he felt a great erection, otherwise he would change his drawing.

His "dirty drawings" (as he called them) in graphite and Indian ink gained popularity through Physique Pictorial magazine. The exhibitions appeared, followed by public recognition. Tom of Finland is today a reference in the world of erotic art.
There is a Tom of Finland's paper doll. It is Kake the main character of his comics which was a success from the first issue! Kake has a tight jeans and t-shirts, leather jacket and police uniform plus two caps.

The Tom Of Finland Foundation is a non-profit foundation that brings together all of Tom of Finland's work and keeps his art and memory alive.

Here it is my contribute to the challenge launched by the Tom of Finland Foundation to celebrate the Tom of Finland's 100th birthday. I searched for references in Tom's characters and drew a male pin-up with two clothes, a tight bathing suit with a marine cap and leather pants with with boots anda a police cap (apologize for the censor smile).

Have fun!

My tribute to celebrate 100th Tom of Finland birthday

The last week outfits!

Drawing for the challenge #100daysofpaperdolls will keep me busy with this blog in the next (100) days. As I said before, I will post here the weekly result of the challenge. So here are the outfits of the last days: a kilt, a pair of jeans, a beret, a shirt, a pair of vintage engineer boots and a (false) leather jacket to create a Marlon Brando look ... and an outfit of Easter bunny to celebrate the season.

Stay well, see you soon!
