As it's difficult to find news about paper dolls on the market, I look on the web... and every now and then I have a surprise. 

 I would like to share with you the work of Kenji Nuñez. He is the Creative Director of an advertising agency, an illustrator, toy collector and photographer. In addition to his beautiful artistic work inspired by pop culture, which we can see on his various social networks, he has a series of paper dolls called Make me a paper doll. In his gallery we will find personalized paper dolls, celebrities, pop singers (Kyle Minogue, Britney Spears, Beyoncé) and superheroes. Como é difícil encontrar novidades no mercado sobre paper dolls, vou procurando na web... e de vez em quando eu tenho uma surpresa. Gostaria de partilhar convosco o trabalho de Kenji Nuñez. Ele é Diretor criativo uma agência de publicidade, ele é ilustrador, colecionador e fotógrafo de brinquedos. Para além do trabalho muito bonito em ilustração, que podemos ver nas suas diferentes redes sociais, ele tem um série de paper dolls chamada Make me a paper doll. He wasn't just Ken

I saw the movie Barbie and found it very boring... and Ryan Gosling as Ken didn't convince me either. I was even a little confused by all the rivalries that were created with the movie Oppenheimer. But when I saw Ryan Gosling's performance at the 96th Academy Awards, reminiscent of the famous Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend stage in Gentleman Prefers Blondes, I surrendered... it was an amazing performance.  

All the details were there, the suit in the same shade of fuchsia pink as Marilyn Monroe's dress, the pink gloves, the costumes of the dancers, the Ken-delabra, the stairs... It was a beautiful tribute to Marilyn Monroe. The participation of Slash from Guns N 'Roses also contributed to the scene... He may have just been Ken, but he was without a doubt the winner of the night. Now take a look and comment!

Eu vi o filme Barbie e achei muito aborrecido... e Ryan Gosling no papel de Ken também não me convenceu. Até fiquei um pouco confuso com todas as rivalidades que se criaram com o filme Oppenheimer. Mas ao ver a apresentação de Ryan Gosling na 96ª edição dos Oscars, a fazer lembrar o famoso stage de Diamonds are a girl's best friend em Gentleman prefer blondes eu rendi-me... foi uma boa apresentação. Estavam lá todos os detalhes, o terno com o mesmo tom de rosa fuchsia do vestido de Marilyn Monroe, as luvas rosa,os ternos dos Kens (pretendentes)bailarinos, os Ken-delabra,as escadas... A participação de Slash dos Guns N'Roses também contribuiu para cena... Foi uma bonita homenagem a Marilyn Monroe. Ele pode ter sido apenas o Ken, mas ele foi o rei da noite. During the Golden Age of American comics The Adventures of Manuel Pacifico: Tuna Fisherman were published as adventure stories set on the open sea filled with facts and true stories . “Although the characters and adventures are fictional, the references to the tuna industry, clothing, geography and history of" Latin America are factual, explained the editor.

The magazine with script and drawings by Frieda Bart Hind, was published between 1950-1951 in several editions, served as merchandising and advertising to promote Breast-O-Chicken canned foods (Westgate-Sun Harbor Co). For readers to obtain a copy, they simply had to send two canned food labels by mail and the magazines were sent to their address.

Durante a Golden Age dos comics americanos foram publicadas em banda desenhas As Aventuras de Manuel Pacífico: o pescador de atum que eram passadas em mar aberto. “Apesar dos personagens e aventuras serem de ficção, as referencias à industria pesqueira, às roupas, geografia e história" da América Latina são verídicas, esclarecia o editor. A revista com argumento e desenho de Frieda Bart Hind, publicada entre 1950-1951 com várias edições, servia como merchandising e publicidade para promover as conservas enlatadas da Breast-O-Chicken(Westgate-Sun Harbor Co). Para os leitores conseguirem um exemplar bastava enviar por correio duas etiquetas das conservas e as revistas eram enviadas para a sua morada. Parece-me que no segundo número foi publicada esta paper doll do personagem principal Manuel “Manny” Pacífico com o seu fato de fim-de-semana e as suas roupas de aventureiro! Até à próxima.

It's been a while since I've shared any content with you. This past year has left me in my tracks. Several events in my personal and professional life affected my willingness to update this blog. Já passou algum tempo que eu não partilho nenhum conteúdo convosco. Este ano que passou deixou-me de rastos. (Pat) Frey has a unique style to draw paper doll. Sometimes in black and white others in colors. 

If you take a look on the web you will find some of her works most of them dated from final 70's early 80's.

Her paper doll sets are rich in details and acessoires... most of the times it has frames which gave the final touch.

Here we have couple that caught my attention. He because it is well drawn, all Greek god body. She because she has a smile and an attitude all confident on her body and we can see she isn't a Barbie type.

Lovely the ideia of using paper dolls to drive attention for some questions that are affecting to much people!

In the early 80's Playgirl magazine edited one book of paper dolls called Hunks. In it we could find  three men in different outfits representing different personalities: the surfer, the millionaire and the macho man. The book has several pages of costumes, clothes, accessories and settings.

For the ladies, there is a body girl where they can glue their photo and play all the fantasies with the man of their dreams!

No início dos anos 80, a revista Playgirl editou um livro de bonecas de papel chamado Hunks. Nele podemos encontrar três homens em trajes diferentes representando personalidades diferentes: o surfista, o milionário e o machão. But after seeing the movie Joshua Tree 1951: A Portrait of James Dean I searched on web and found some stories I didn't no know, but I must confess it filled my imagination... 

It doesn't admires that he once said:“I am not a homosexual. But, I'm also not going to go through life with one hand tied behind my back.”

Have you ever heard about the cat and the mouse stories between him and Marlon Brando?

"When Dean was living in NYC, studying at the Actors Studio under Lee Strasberg(...)while attending a class conducted by Marlon Brando in 1951, Dean stayed after the session to meet his idol, beginning an intense sexual affair with Marlon that lasted through the winter.  Percebi que o aniversário de James Dean é hoje, dia 8 de fevereiro. Não vou fazer aqui nenhuma biografia sobre James Dean... não há necessidade. Sempre o achei uma pessoa intrigante... e bonito. Depois de ver o filme Joshua Tree 1951: A Portrait of James Dean pesquisei na web e encontrei algumas histórias que não conhecia, mas confesso que encheram a minha imaginação... Não admira que ele tenha dito uma vez: “Não sou homossexual. Mas também não vou passar a vida com uma mão amarrada nas costas.” 

Já ouviu falar das histórias do gato e do rato entre ele e Marlon Brando? "Quando Dean estava morando em Nova York, estudando no Actors Studio com Lee Strasberg(...) enquanto participava de uma aula conduzida por Marlon Brando em 1951, Dean ficou após a sessão para conhecer seu ídolo, iniciando um intenso caso sexual com Marlon que durou o inverno. Early ads began in 1979 in New Orleans' Impact magazine and later in the The Blade in Washington DC. National ads began in 1994, including an extension of the mainstream "Life is Good" campaign and this tongue-in-cheek series of paper dolls.

Miller Brewing Co., along with Anheuser-Busch, have the distinction of being among the few companies that advertises in gay media and also have a mainstream media commercial with a gay theme.

Beer companies are well represented in The Commercial Closet, largely due to an effort in the mid-1990s to pull away from the industry's longterm sexist advertising themes that objectified women. Such commercials were summed up by the Swedish Bikini Team ads from Stroh Brewing Co. for Old Milwaukee. Looking for new material to mine, brewers began extensively playing with gay and transgender themes in their advertising.
