I've been looking for new ideas and new themes to draw paper dolls.
That's when I found the Literary Paper dolls project on the web, created by writer Julia Berick in partnership with illustrator Jenny Kroik.
Julia Berick writes for The Paris Review and lives in New York. Jenny Kroik is an illustrator and painter with work published in The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Penguin Random House, and more.
With the Litterary Paper dolls project, they brought to life, in the form of paper dolls, some characters from classic novels as well known as Mrs Dalloway, Franny and Zooey, Cassandra at the wedding, among others.
Each character comes with a wardrobe according to the writer's description and Julia Berick's imagination. The paper dolls resulting from this project can be viewed and are accessible online for free.Take a look on this article from The Paris Review
People can join Julia and Jenny in this initiative, with drawing and painting materials, in an online drawing session led by Julia and do the exercise of designing a wardrobe for a paper doll according to the clues in the book.
What an interesting idea to look at works of literature with new eyes or for a Book club session! :)
