This paper doll appears to be illustrated by Ginnie Hoffmann, the well-known female artist of the no less famous Betsy McCall paper doll. This one comes from the inside pages of Esquire magazine in the 70s. The outfits and accessories to mix and match are spread in two pages.

Who was Gennie Hoffmann?

Virginia "Ginnie" Hoffmann(1920-2014) "grew up in Ohio during the years of the Great Depression. She decided early on to pursue a career as an artist and after graduating from high school spent four years at art school in Cincinnati training for her life's work. As a youngster she remembers cutting out Dolly Dingle paper dolls but admits she was more of a tomboy, into animals and typical boy activities like sports and building shacks. After graduating from art school in 1942 she worked briefly for Columbia Records in Bridgeport as an artist. She later married and began looking for work in New York and worked for a time with Seventeen, Fascination, and Mademoiselle. The work for which she would become best known, The Betsy McCall Paper Doll collection, began in 1958. Her association with the McCall company ended in in 1986 when the company decided to replace the paper doll pages in the magazine with puzzle pages. Ginnie also illustrated The Brides Recipe Page for McCall's. Ginnie had always wanted to illustrate children's books and while at McCall's she did a Golden Book with Selma Robinson which featured Betsy McCall. The art director at Golden Press, Olé Risom, later moved to Random House where he decided to publish Ginnie's book, Who wants An Old Teddy. She eventually did five teddy bear books for him, all about the same boy and his teddy. Ginnie was a long-time member of the society of Illustrators."

No início, ela decidiu seguir a carreira de artista e, depois de se formar no ensino médio, passou quatro anos na escola de arte em Cincinnati, treinando para o trabalho de sua vida. Enquanto jovem, ela  lembra-se de recortar as paper dolls Dolly Dingle, mas admite que era mais uma maria-rapaz, brincando com animais e divertindo-se com atividades infantis "típicas" dos rapazes, como desporto e construção de cabanas. Depois de se formar na escola de arte em 1942, trabalhou brevemente para a Columbia Records em Bridgeport como artista. Mais tarde, casou-se e começou a procurar trabalho em Nova York e trabalhou por algum tempo com a Seventeen, Fascination e Mademoiselle. Women who persevere against the odds

It was a wonderful surprise to find paper dolls by Josephine Baker and Frida Kahlo with various outfits. They are a creation of the plastic artist Lola Noguer.

She tells in her biography at Behance that she started drawing paper dolls at an early age. Strong women served as a theme to draw her paper dolls. She was also inspired by mermaids, school friends or the books she read. “I still have the photo album my grandmother bought for me to keep all my paper dolls,” she says. What a fantastic collection she must have...

Foi uma surpresa maravilhosa encontrar paper dolls de Josephine Baker e Frida Kalho com vários outfits. São uma criação da artista plástica Lola Noguer. Ela conta em sua biografia no Behance que começou a desenhar bonecas de papel desde muito cedo. Mulheres fortes serviram-lhe de tema para desenhar suas paper doll. Ela também se inspirava em sereias, amigas da escola ou nos livros que lia. “Ainda tenho o álbum de fotos que minha avó comprou para eu guardar todas as minhas bonecas de papel”, diz ela. que coleção fantastica ela deve ter. “Scheherazade contava histórias para evitar a morte. Mas hoje conto histórias para celebrar a vida de mulheres que perseveram contra todas as adversidades” - Lola Noguer

I always liked to see movie stars photos from the golden era or from the silver screen era like Marlene Dietrich, Jean Harlow, Hedy Lamar, Mae West and other vamps. Of course I noticed male stars like Gary Cooper, Marlon Brando, Rock Hudson and so many others who become models to  my own creations.

So Cary Grant is a special case. Because he is so classy, sophisticated and fun at same time. He is definitely the male model in my modest opinion... When an interviewer once told him, "Everyone would like to be Cary Grant," he replied, "I'd like to be Cary Grant, too."

And to full fill my imagination and fantasies, like some of many others who admired him, there is the photo session with Randolph Scott.

I was searching on the web for paper dolls and once again I found amazing art works from so different artists and periods. Trying to make a homage to one of my favourite movie stars I'm sharing here some paper dolls we can find on the web.

   Sempre gostei de ver fotos de estrelas de cinema, da golden era  ou da era silver screen, como Marlene Dietrich, Jean Harlow, Hedy Lamar, Mae West e outras vamps. Claro que reparava nas estrelas masculinas como Gary Cooper, Marlon Brando, Rock Hudson e tantos outros que se tornaram modelos para minhas criações.

Portanto, Cary Grant é um caso especial. Porque ele é tão elegante, sofisticado e divertido ao mesmo tempo. Ele é definitivamente o modelo masculino na minha modesta opinião...Quando um entrevistador certa vez lhe disse: "Todo mundo gostaria de ser Cary Grant", ele respondeu: "Eu também gostaria de ser Cary Grant".

E para preencher a minha imaginação e fantasias, como as de tantos outros que o admiravam, há a sessão de fotos com Randolph Scott.
