Hello everyone!
I am a big fan of paper dolls. Let me introduce myself. My story with paper dolls started in my childhood. I was born in a small rural village in the interior of a small country in the entrance of Europe... my beautiful Portugal!
My toys were pencils, paper and scissors (Oh, and also a little of glue!). I used to watch the cartoons on television and draw the characters on the cardboard of the morning cereal boxes, because it was stronger and cut them to play (at other times it was in my grandmother's medicine package, which sometimes went wrong because she missed the prescription and she got angry) .
I remember as a child I looked for big cardboard boxes or shoe boxes to build houses, castles with secret passages, farms and scenarios for my characters.
Meanwhile, on the wrapping paper of a chewing gum appeared a paper doll which was sold with her clothes. Her name was "Nina". (Much to my regret these days I only have a reproduction of the original. Thanks to the kindness of "Mistério Juvenil", one amazing site which is dedicated "to preserving the memories of childhood through the memories of advertising, television programs, games and playing, collections, school and everything that allows to remind childhood" from the 70's, 80's and 90's generations!)

Since then I started drawing my own paper dolls. I drew the cartoon characters that I saw on tv, brazilian soap opera actors and actress, pop stars, movie stars, my favourite super heroes and other invented characters ... I remember that I used the gift wrapping paper to pretend the fabrics... and some I made them with volume.

Meantime other paper doll appeared. It was "Misty" a Trina Robbins' comics character and I started to collect them. Fortunately I kept the books without cutting them, because in my early teens I "lost my head" and all paper dolls that I created and collected. But the passion for the paper dolls kept the flame burning inside me ...
Later when internet access arrived, I started researching paper dolls and it was then that I met the paper dolls , I started researching for paper dolls.
Then I met the paper dolls of Donald Hendricks (1932-2013) and the Fancy Ephemera Paper Dolls website (http://www.fancyephemera.com/) by Brenda Sneathen Mattox and the work of the King of Paper Dolls: Mr.Tom Tierney (1928-2013). I can not believed it when I finally could bought his books through Amazon ... I really like Tom Tierney's work! (I even wrote him a letter telling how much I like his work, but unfortunately he was not in good health ... I'm afraid he never heard of my letter).
I am now a paper doll enthusiast and I'm so excited because I have discovered the work of such talented artists as Marilyn Henry, Ming-ju Sun, Jim Howard, Cory Jensen, Gregg Nystrom, David Wolfe ... and so many others that make paper dolls an art form!

Deixem-me apresentar.

Desde então comecei a desenhar as minhas próprias bonecas de papel. Eu
