The artist behind Calendar boy

Lance Rayburn by Carl Davis in TWT, sep/85

Over the past few weeks, we've shared Lance Rayburn's paper dolls illustrated for TWT Magazine: This Week in Texas with the main theme being the Mr. Texas winners from the first contest edition in 1974 until 1985.

Who is the artist behind these Mr. Texas paper dolls? Lance Rayburn (1957-) is the artist who created this series of paper dolls published in TWT magazine throughout 1986. In the interview he gave to TWT magazine (September/85) he presents himself as a fan of pink, Barbie and Ken, Tom Selleck, comics and paper dolls. He began drawing and collecting paper dolls as a child. In his apartment, it must have looked like an Alibaba cave for paper doll collectors, there was a wardrobe full of boxes of paper dolls collected over the years. At around age 24, he began drawing his own paper dolls. In addition to Mr. Texas also drew personalities from the world of cinema, music, fashion, friends and real people, among others.

"Paper doll collectors are pretty much pack rats." Lance Rayburn

The release Beyond Mr. Texas also designed personalities from the world of cinema, music, fashion, among others... We share here the paper doll Terry Tebedo (1949-1988), activist, fighter and defender of human rights and the LGBT community. If you're interested, you can read more about Terry by clicking here...
