I should assign these words to the title of this post. I think the expression Lolita gained a greater meaning with Brigitte Bardot (b.28th Sep. 1938)
Famous for being a woman ahead of her time, playing sexually emancipated women, promoting a hedonistic lifestyle paved with a lot of gossip, she is one of my favorite movie stars.
She became a fashion icon with a style characterized by messy hair and dark cat eyes; Vichy pattern, Breton stripes, off-the-shoulder neckline, plaid dress, bikinis and ballerinas (slippers)
Trained to become a ballerina and after acting in about 47 films and recording a few songs, she decided, after retiring, to dedicate her life to something bigger: protecting and promoting animal rights.
"I gave my beauty and my youth to men. I am going to give my wisdom and experience to animals."Brigitte Bardot
B.B. became an activist and created the Brigitte Bardot Foundation. She is well known for her strong personality, outspokenness and speeches about animal advocacy; she was fined several times.
One of the most interesting documentaries I've seen about her and her work as an activist is« Brigitte Bardot: the oath made to animals », a documentary by Rachel Khan and François Chaumont, 2019. "This documentary tells the fight of B.B., who exceptionally agreed to testify from his home in Saint-Tropez, « La Garrigue », during the autumn of 2018."
B.B. is not just a muse who has inspired stylists and filmmakers. BB inspired Alain Aslan for the Bust of Marianne (symbol of the French republic) and still inspires artists like Milo Manara and of course paper doll artist all over the world. Check out some we found on the web...
I remember watching the movie Solomon and Sheba when I was a kid.
Of course I couldn't forget the ecstatic dance scene by Gina Lollobrigida.
However I couldn't remember who King Solomon was... so looking on the web I noticed that Tyrone Power, would play the role of King Solomon but he died in a fight scene in the heat of Spain and was replaced by Yul Brynner.
Although I've seen some of his films, mainly with the character Zorro, I couldn't associate him with him. I decided to look it up on the web and found it very beautiful... a real movie star!
This search led me to some paper dolls published in 1941 by Merrill Publishing Company, with an incredible resemblance... and it looks like he had a great closet! 😍
Tyrone Power and Linda Darnell were a popular film crew and most of the costumes pictured in this issue are from their film roles. For Tyrone Power some are from "The Mark of Zorro" and "Blood and Sand".
Continuing to search the web it seems he has inspired some of the most highly regarded paper doll artists.
To the next!
Tyrone Power and Linda Darnel : dolls and costumes published by Merrill Publishing Company, 1941
Tyrone Power by Tom Tierney from Thirty from the 30's costumes of the great stars: paper dolls for grownups

Para Tyrone Power alguns são de "The Mark of Zorro" e "Blood and Sand".
Today, March 8, we celebrate the International Women's Day.I wonder why the importance of these dates, when we are fighting to give all equal rights to men and women? And gender rights? However, I can recommend the work of Pénélope Bagieu the French cartoonist who inspired the comics for the TV series of the same name Brazen.
More important than gender is the way you feel and the things you do, no matter who you are or where you are, no matter where you come from.

I tried to find a paper doll about Christine Jorgensen. I didn't found so I will share this amazing illustration by Anita Kunz and a small bio from xtramagazine where you can find some other example of amazing womem.
Christine Jorgensen by Anita Kunz
"Christine Jorgensen (1926–1989) was an American
transgender woman and the first person to become famous in the United
States for having sex reassignment surgery. After her Second World War
military service, she began taking estrogen. Jorgensen then went to
Copenhagen in the early 1950s to receive further hormone treatment and
surgery. Jorgensen was greeted as a celebrity when she returned to the
United States in 1953, since news of her transition had already been
published. As an actress and nightclub entertainer, Jorgensen won over
audiences with her poise, beauty, humour and charm, and she used her
fame as a platform to advocate for transgender people." from Xtramagazine.com

It was a wonderful surprise to find paper dolls by Josephine Baker and Frida Kahlo with various outfits. They are a creation of the plastic artistLola Noguer.
She tells in her biography at Behance that she started drawing paper dolls at an early age. Strong women served as a theme to draw her paper dolls. She was also inspired by mermaids, school friends or the books she read. “I still have the photo album my grandmother bought for me to keep all my paper dolls,” she says. What a fantastic collection she must have...
"Scheherazade told stories to avoid death. But today I tell stories to celebrate the life of women who persevere against the odds" - Lola Noguer

I
was about 8 or 9 years old when I first saw images of her. It was the
first movie star that captivated me and that I followed over the years
... The most famous blonde in the world of show business. Her image of
half-closed eyes and half-open mouth in a flowing white dress has become
iconographic. Marilyn Monroe needs no introduction. Many things have
already been said, done, seen, written about and the world of paper
dolls is no exception.
When
browsing the web we will find paper dolls illustrated by many artists with
results so diverse that it is impossible to mention them all so I will
share with you those that I consider best.
The first paper doll I purchased was from Mr. Tom Tierney published by Dover 1 doll and 31 costumes from twenty-four MM movies. It is very complete but in my opinion it is not his best work on MM.
For example The seven year itch dress
which is one of the most well-known costumes worn by MM is very little
detailed. Even the facial expression looks more a wannabe look alike. I cant remember where in the internet I found Macky's
paper dolls, was the author name on the files, who taking advantage of
the paper doll on Tom Tierney's book illustrated some of the outfits
that are missing there. Anyway, it is therefore a must have for any
paper doll fan or MM fan.
Outfits illustrated by Macky
If compared to DANNY'S BOYS The Female Impersonator Tom Tierney's paper doll, it has a paper doll with a facial and body expression much better illustrated and the looks are very well detailed including the wigs for each look. Published by B.SHACKMAN COMPANY has two die-cut Paper Dolls and six
pages with sixteen Fashionable and gorgeous Outfits.
DANNY'S BOYS The Female Impersonator paper doll by
Tom Tierney, B.SHACKMAN COMPANY and MurryLynn Munloe by Tom Tierney
Another
paper doll about MM that I think is very original is illustrated by
Ralph Hodgdon who has an incredible work of paper dolls. It is not the
most similar paper doll in terms of facial expression but the choice of
outfits on the first years of MM's career is very interesting and is not
a theme that is much explored. It is welcome by the originality and
detailed work!
Paper doll by Ralph Hodgdon
Another example that deserves attention is illustrated by Marilyn Henry. It reminds me the vintage edition of American Beauties.
“There are two dolls and eight clothing pages with 50 fashion items in
all! With star biography by fashion expert David Wolfe and photos from
the George Zeno collection, this book is treasure for paper doll
collectors and fans of Marilyn Monroe!”
Marilyn Monroe by Marilyn Henry
We can find other fine examples which deserves our attention by Bruce Patrick Jones, Eileen Rudisill Miller, David Wolfe, Gregg Nystrom, Jeff L Davies, Nancy Stahl, Basia Koening, Rauni Palonen, Cory Jensen, Gabriella Patterson or published like the one in swedish vintage Året Runt Magazine Marilyn-Monroe paper doll and many others. If you have other references please share with me, you are welcome!
Marilyn Monroe was born on June 1, 1926 and I should made this post before as a Happy Birthday tribute. Hope you like it!
Eu
A loira mais famosa do mundo do show business.
Eileen Rudisill Miller, David Wolfe, Jeff L Davies, Nancy Stahl, Basia
