Triumph paper doll

I found this wonderful kind of paper doll on the web pages which could work like one. There is a model, in fact she is Lily Cole, a real model, and around thirty seven outfits created for the design of lingerie competition Triumph Inspiration Award 2011. The photo shoot was taken by the amazing photographer Ellen Von Unwerth.

I chose two looks that I liked,  but you can see the others here.

Eu encontrei esse tipo maravilhoso de boneca de papel nas páginas da web que poderia funcionar como uma. Existe uma modelo, na verdade ela é Lily Cole, uma modelo real, e cerca de trinta e sete roupas criadas para o concurso de lingerie Triumph Inspiration Award 2011. A sessão de fotos foi feita pela incrível fotógrafa Ellen Von Unwerth. Eu escolhi dois outfits que eu gostei, mas podem ver os outros aqui. Até à próxima semana, mantenham-se saudáveis!

Paper dolls which remind me my childood

As I had already shared here before, I used to design my own paper dolls when I was a child. I drew them on the inside of the cereal packaging or sometimes on the medicine packaging, because they were made of a more resistant cardboard. Then I drew the clothes on other papers, sometimes wrapping paper, and coloured them with coloured pencils. Unfortunately, no specimen resisted the years ...

As it is difficult to find paper dolls in book stores I search the internet and sometimes I find paper dolls quite interesting and rare. This is the case of the ones I share with you today ... They are from the blog https://pinkroseearte.blogspot.com/ and the author is Pink Rose and her sisters. She shares the enthusiasm for paper dolls and she was a reader of Trina Robbins' Meet Misty comics.

And why am I sharing these paper dolls you ask me? Well, they caught my attention because they have characteristics very similar to those I drew, namely the hairstyles, some details like the detail of the haired chest of the boys and the big round bubies on female figures, the frontal and symmetrical position of the body, the feet shown and drawn from the front (as are represented in anime characters), boy's underwear and girl's bikinis. The female clothes were always very low-cut and it seemed that they were always dressed for a show or a party.

These paper dolls really touched my memories and I find them very beautiful! One of these days I will (re) design a paper doll with the features that I remember just to share with you and you will understand my emotion.

Como eu já tinha partilhado aqui anteriormente, eu desenhava as minhas próprias paper dolls. Eu desenhava-as no interior das embalagens dos cereais ou às vezes na embalagem dos medicamentos, porque eram de um cartão mais resistente. Depois desenhava as roupas noutros papéis, às vezes papel de embrulho, e coloria-os com lápis de côr.  Infelizmente nenhum exemplar resistiu ao tempo...
Como é difícil encontrar paper dolls nas livrarias eu pesquiso na internet e às vezes encontro paper dolls bastante interessantes e raras. É o caso das que partilho hoje convosco... Eles são do blog https://pinkroseearte.blogspot.com/ e o autor é Pink Rose e suas irmãs. Ela compartilha o entusiasmo por bonecas de papel e foi leitora dos quadrinhos Meet Misty de Trina Robbins. E porque é que estou a partilhar estas paper dolls perguntam-me vocês? Bem, elas chamaram a minha a atenção porque têm características muito idênticas às que eu desenhava, nomeadamente os penteados, alguns detalhes como o pormenor do peito das figuras femininas, a posição frontal e simétrica do corpo, os pés calçados e desenhados de frente (como são representados nos personagens de anime), os outfits, a underwear dos rapazes e os bikinis das raparigas. As roupas delas eram sempre muito decotadas e parecia que estavam sempre vestidas para um espetáculo ou para uma festa.
Estas paper dolls mexeram muito com as minhas recordações e acho-as muito bonitas!
Um destes dias vou (re)desenhar uma paper doll com as caracteristicas que me lembro só para partilhar convosco e vão entender a minha emoção. Até à próxima!

I found this fashion advertisement from Fenway Fashions and it seems to me a 50's ad's ( the artist is not credited). When I found this ad's I saw a beautiful paper doll... so I decided to do a little "cut and glue" work!

 Here it is to share with you a beautiful model paper doll and five outfits with lots of lace (and a brief description for each outfit in the original).

However I have more surprises on the way!😉

 Eu encontrei esta publicidade da Fenway Fashions, parece-me ser do anos 50 e o artista não está creditado. Quando a vi decidi fazer um pouco de "corta e cola" pois pareceu-me que dava uma lindíssima paper doll. Paper dolls fashion editorial

Paper dolls are many times found as inspirational source. 

Again from a the pages of a fashion editorial in one women's magazine (probably from the 90's).
There are three pages inspired by paper dolls and show different styles: navy, romantic and ready-to-wear. Unfortunately the out fits doesn't match de model... but the most important on this idea is to promote this amazing art form! : )

Poupées en papier pour s'habiller!

Last year I went to the Comics Festival in Angoulême (France), as I said in my last post. There, I found the fabulous stand of Fourbi Éditions entirely devoted to publications with activities on paper. Paper dolls were one of the subjects of these publications. There I met Hannah Lafargue from whom I bought some paper dolls (with a dédicace). There are different paper dolls (i show you here two) with the same shape of the body, that allows you to change the costumes between them. There are different looks and costumes for different girls!

No ano passado eu fui ao Festival de Banda Desenhada em Angoulême (França), como eu disse no meu último post. Lá, encontrei o fabuloso stand da Fourbi Éditions inteiramente dedicada a publicações com atividades em papel. Paper dolls foram um dos temas dessas publicações.
Lá conheci Hannah Lafargue de quem eu comprei alguns bonecos de papel (com um dédicace). Existem diferentes paper dolls (com a mesma forma de corpo) que permitem que você mude os outfits entre eles. Existem diferentes looks e fantasias para diferentes garotas! Encontre mais publicações da Fourbi Éditions no seu site ou no seu facebook! ; )

I drew these paper dolls in the late eighties, I should be 13 or 14 years old. Both resisted the passage of time. These were drawn with coloured pencils. Both inspired by Brazilian actors from a brasilian soap opera called Roque Santeiro, which was shown on Portuguese television more than thirty years ago. In her case, I changed her face to a Marilyn lookalike. The clothes are not original and were made later for the two.

Like these, I drew many paper dolls, many of them based on the actors in this novel and others. I kept them in my collection because I have a special affection for them.

I prepared a short presentation to share with you. Hope you like!

Eu desenhei estas bonecas de papel no final dos anos oitenta. Eu deveria ter 13 ou 14 anos de idade. Ambos resistiram à passagem do tempo. Estas foram desenhados com lápis de côr . Ambos inspirados em atores brasileiros de uma novela brasileira chamada Roque Santeiro exibida na televisão portuguesa há mais de trinta anos. No caso dela, mais tarde mudei o rosto para um look parecido com a  Marilyn.  As roupas não são originais e foram feitas depois para os dois. Como estes, eu desenhei muitas bonecas de papel, muitas delas baseadas nos atores dessa novela. Estas mantive-as na minha coleção porque tenho um carinho especial por elas. Eu preparei uma pequena apresentação para compartilhar com você. Espero que gostem!

"Fairly" a paper doll mannequin

I share again a fashion advertisement inspired by paper dolls.

I already have for some years ago in my collection. I cannot remember if it's from the late 90's or early 2000's ... but I remember it was distributed with a fashion magazine.

It was through this small catalogue that the pret-à-porter fashion brand Fairly presented some basics of its collection .

It is  a photographic registry of a paper doll in the form of a mannequin and about ten outfits and accessories that integrate the novelty of the collection and a possible combination of them in the way of dressing.

Partilho novamente um anúncio de moda inspirado numa paper doll. Eu já a tenho há alguns anos na minha colecção. Não me lembro se é do final dos anos 90 ou início de 2000 ... lembro-me que foi distribuído com uma revista de moda. Foi através deste pequeno catálogo que a marca de moda pret-à-porter Fairly apresentou alguns básicos de sua colecção. É um registo fotográfico de uma paper doll na forma de um manequim e cerca de dez outfits e acessórios que integravam a novidade da colecção e uma possível combinação deles na maneira de se vestir.

Summer fashion to Patrizia and Robertino

The summer is here, nice weather and funny things to do! So I share with you these two paper dolls from Corriere dei Picolli #24(14th of July 1964) . There is two paper dolls, a boy and a girl, with different outfits: swim suits, dresses, caps, shorts, blazers in different styles and colours.  The outfits are presented with a summary description about tissues and materials, with prices. It seems to me a creative way to publicity a catalogue of summer fashion to young people from a brand called "Coin". They are Patrizia and Robertino presenting summer fashion to dress them on summer holidays!

O verão está aqui, bom clima e coisas engraçadas para fazer! Então compartilho com você essas duas bonecas de papel da Corriere dei Picolli # 24 (14 de julho de 1964).  

 Há dois bonecos de papel, um menino e uma menina, com roupas diferentes: fatos de banho, vestidos, bonés, calções, blazers em diferentes estilos e cores. As roupas são apresentadas com uma descrição resumida sobre tecidos e materiais, com preços. Parece-me uma maneira criativa de publicitar um catálogo de moda de verão para jovens de uma marca chamada Coin. Eles são a Patrizia e Robertino apresentando moda de verão para vesti-los nas férias de verão!

Paper doll pin up revues

This is an invitation to present the spring / summer 2003 fashion show by the internationally renowned Portuguese fashion designer Fátima Lopes. In 2000 she got a lot of attention by the media and the Guinness World Record for parading in the French capital the most expensive gold and diamond bikini, valued at one million dollars.

Reproduced in an article of a magazine the invitation is illustrated with a pin up whose similarities, namely the haircut and the smile of red lipstick, remind the own stylist. The outfits are based on stylist models very marked by elegant and very feminine silhouettes, necklines and asymmetrical cuts. As unfortunately I do not have an original invitation to my collection ... I am happy with this clipping that i share with you! :)

Este é um convite para a apresentação da colecção primavera/verão 2003 num desfile de moda da estilista portuguesa Fátima Lopes internacionalmente conhecida. Em 2000 causa grande atenção mediática e recorde do Guinness por desfilar na capital francesa o mais caro biquíni em ouro e diamantes, avaliado em um milhão de dólares.

Reproduzido num artigo de uma revista o convite é ilustrado uma pin up cujas semelhanças, nomeadamente o corte de cabelo e o sorriso de batom vermelho,  fazem lembrar a própria estilista. Os out fits são baseados nos modelos da estilista muito marcados por silhuetas elegantes e muito femininas, decotes e cortes assimétricos. Como infelizmente não tenho um convite original para a minha colecção...Contento-me com este recorte que partilho convosco! :)

Playing with Yves Saint Laurent's paper dolls

When I saw the movie Yves Saint Laurent (2014) by Jalil Lespert I noticed the hanging sketches that looked like Tom Tierney's paper dolls. I went to see more closely and compared with the paper dolls of the book Yves St. Laurent Fashion Review (Dover, 1998) I saw that they were not the same. But I had no idea that there was such a beautiful collection of paper dolls made by Yves Saint Laurent (YSL).

As a result of a Google search, images of YSL's real paper dolls have appeared. These were released by the Foundation Pierre Bergé - Yves Saint Laurent who opened their archives to the public.

This is a collection of paper dolls made by the still shy YSL teenager in the early 50's. They are about 11 dolls with different poses and hairstyles, were created 443 garments/ out fits with tabs,105 accessories, 7 patterns and two program books for the collections which group them (Autumn-Winter 1953-1954 and 1954-55).

To make his paper dolls, he made cut outs of his favourite models from his mother's fashion magazines of his times (Vogue, Jardin des Modes, and Paris Match) and drew his colourful outfits with gouache, ink, and watercolours . Some had names such as: Suzy, Bettina, Véra, Florence, Ivy.

These would be the first models of the house of his dreams called Yves Mathieu Saint Laurent Haute Couture Place Vendôme and that would bear testimony of his genius and sense of style.

Quando vi o filme Yves Saint Laurent (Jalil Lespert, 2014) reparei nos croquis de moda pendurados que me pareciam paper dolls de Tom Tierney. Fui ver com mais atenção e comparando com as paper dolls do livro Yves St. Laurent Fashion Review (Dover, 1998) vi que não eram as mesmas. Mas não imaginava que houvesse uma colecção tão bonita de paper dolls feitas por Yves Saint Laurent (YSL).

Por acaso no resultado de uma  pesquisa  no Google surgiram imagens das verdadeiras paper dolls de YSL. Estas foram divulgadas pela Fundação Pierre Bergé – Yves Saint Laurent que abriu os seus arquivos ao público.

Trata-se de uma colecção de paper dolls feitas pelo ainda tímido adolescente YSL no princípio da década 50. Foram criadas cerca de 11 bonecas com poses e penteados diferentes, 443 vestidos, 105 acessórios, 7 padrões e dois programas para as duas colecções em que se agrupavam (Outono-Inverno1953-1954 e 1954-55). 

Para fazer as suas bonecas de papel ele fazia recortes das suas modelos preferidas das revistas de moda da época, que eram da sua mãe (Vogue, Jardin des Modes e Paris Match)  e, desenhava os seus outfits coloridos com gouache, tinta da china e aguarelas. Algumas tinham nomes tais como: Suzy, Bettina, Véra, Florence, Ivy. Podem ver mais no website da Fondation Pierre Bergé – Yves Saint Laurent.

Mini mannequin from Finland

Mini Mannequin is a paper doll that reminds me my first paper doll Nina .

I found it in the Imaginarium store, where I also purchased paper dolls book  Paperwork .

There are four small books in four different colors but the paper doll is identical allowing you to combine and change the outfits and accessories between them.

Each book has a total of 24 outfits: 14 are for cut out and 10 that you can customize because they are for colouring or for making collages. What your imagination allows!

It seems that there is also a version with a boy but only found it online.
 

The artist is uncredited but if you like them, you can buy it from the Imaginarium  online store or if you look for Gee Pap Stationery you will find more paper dolls of this brand from Finland.

Mini Mannequin paper doll

Mini Mannequin é uma paper doll que me recorda a minha primeira paper doll Nina. 

Encontrei-a na loja Imaginarium, onde adquiri também o livro de paper dolls Paperwork . 

São quatro livros pequenos em quatro cores diferentes mas a paper doll é idêntica o que permite combinar e trocar os outfits e os acessórios entre si. 

Cada uma trás no total 24 outfits dos quais 14 são para recortar e 10 que podem personalizar porque são para colorir ou fazer colagens. O que a vossa imaginação permitir!

Parece que também existe uma versão com um menino mas só encontrei online.

Se gostaram podem adquirir na loja do Imaginarium online ou se procurarem por Gee Pap Stationery irão encontrar mais paper dolls desta marca da Finlândia.
