Paper doll tribute to celebrate Tom's of Finland's 100th birthday

I wish I had done this tribute to Tom of Finland (May, 8/1920 - November, 7/ 1991) earlier to celebrate his 100th birthday on May 8. Despite participating in the tribute on Instagram, I didn't have the opportunity to do it here.

Tom of Finland is well known for his illustrations and comics with homo-erotic content. Tom of Finland changed the mindset of generations by creating a male homosexual model against the stereotype that removes homosexuals from any aspect of masculinity.

I met Tom of Finland's work through a collection of postcards from Taschen publisher in the late 90's. Despite being impressed by the artistic and aesthetic quality of his work

I didn't memorize the artist's name until I saw a TV report that talked about him and the importance of his work in changing the mentality of a century which was approaching its end. Tom of Finland, with his art, celebrated the pleasure and the joy of relationships between healthy and muscular men who proudly display themselves in military uniforms, leather clothes or simple clothes stretched to their bodies. 

He almost never drew a full nude. A naked man was handsome, but all he had to do was put on a piece of clothing and, more than pretty, it made him sexy- Tom said.

Tom evaluated the quality of a good drawing of him if, when drawing, he felt a great erection, otherwise he would change his drawing.

His "dirty drawings" (as he called them) in graphite and Indian ink gained popularity through Physique Pictorial magazine. The exhibitions appeared, followed by public recognition. Tom of Finland is today a reference in the world of erotic art.

There is a Tom of Finland's paper doll. It is Kake the main character of his comics which was a success from the first issue! Kake has a tight jeans and t-shirts, leather jacket and police uniform plus two caps.

The Tom Of Finland Foundation is a non-profit foundation that brings together all of Tom of Finland's work and keeps his art and memory alive.

Here it is my contribute to the challenge launched by the Tom of Finland Foundation to celebrate the Tom of Finland's 100th birthday. I searched for references in Tom's characters and drew a male pin-up with two clothes, a tight bathing suit with a marine cap and leather pants with with boots anda a police cap (apologize for the censor smile).

Eu queria ter feito este tributo a Tom of Finland (8 de Maio de 1920 — 7 de Novembro de 1991) mais cedo para celebrar o seu 100º aniversário no dia 8 de maio. Apesar de participar na homenagem no Instagram não tive oportunidade de o fazer aqui. 

Tom of Finland é sobejamente conhecido pelas suas ilustrações e bandas desenhadas de teor homo-erótico. Tom of Finland mudou a mentalidade de gerações criando um modelo homossexual masculino contrariando o estereotipo que retira aos homossexuais qualquer aspeto de masculinidade.

Eu conheci o trabalho de Tom of Finland através de uma coleção de postais da editora Taschen no final dos anos 90.  Eu não fixei o nome do artista até ver uma reportagem na televisão que falava sobre ele e a importância do seu trabalho na mudança de mentalidades de um século que se aproximava do fim.

Tom of Finland com a sua arte celebrou o prazer e a alegria das relações entre homens saudáveis e musculados que orgulhosamente se exibem em uniformes militares, roupas de couro ou simples vestes de trabalho coladas ao corpo. Quase nunca desenhava um nu integral, um homem nú era bonito mas bastava vestir-lhe uma peça de roupa e mais do que bonito isso tornava-o sexy.

Tom avaliava a qualidade de um bom desenho seu se ao desenhá-lo sentisse uma grande ereção, senão mudava de desenho.

Os seus "dirty drawings"(como ele os chamava) a grafite e tinta da china ganharam popularidade através da revista Physique Pictorial. Seguiram-se as exposições e depois o reconhecimento do público. Tom of Finland é hoje uma referência no mundo da arte erótica mundial.

Evita the queen without a crown

For “la oligarquia”(the oligarchy) she was called Eva Duarte de Péron, La señora, and Evita for the “descamisados”(the shirtless). The name Evita, which was a diminutive, grew and became huge in the heart of the people.
 
She was a very contested figure, but it must be recognized that in just five years she did a remarkable job of social service for the most needed.  She built hospitals, schools, shelters, social neighbourhoods... She travelled through Argentina, from north to south, to bring comfort to the people.
 
After she came to Europe on the Rainbow tour, which passed through Portugal, to see what was done here with social aid and not to repeat the same mistakes that were made here. "What beautiful palaces they have, they could make good hospitals" she said.
 
She addressed to women in Spain with the following words: “our century will not go down in history with the name of the 'century of world wars' nor with the name of the' century of atomic disintegration ', but with another name much more significant as 'century of victorious feminism '.
In September 1947, with the law that approved the female vote, she addressed to Argentine women: “Here it is, my sisters, summarized in the tight handwriting of a few articles, a long history of struggles, obstacles and hopes”.

After the Rainbow tour, Evita returned to Argentina, more sophisticated and in an urgent hurry to do her social work. Evita now wore Balmain, Rochas, Jacques Fath, Balenciaga and Dior who said "the only queen I wore was Eva Peron". She left behind his huge hats, hairpieces and adopted a simple hairstyle that would become his reference image.
 
Evita was born on May 7 of 1919 and she is still alive in the heart of thousands:

                "Volveré y seré millones" (I will return and I will be a million)

As a tribute to this woman, I would like to share here two paper dolls of Evita. 

One that illustrates Evita with ten outfits, hats, accessories, wigs and it is signed by several artists such as Christine D. Scarlett, Frey, Sandra Vanderpool. 

The other has no reference to the artist's name, but for that reason I didn't want to stop sharing it here.

 Para “la oligarquia” chamava-se Eva Duarte de Peron, La señora, e Evita para os descamisados. O nome que era um diminutivo crescia e tornava-se enorme no coração do povo.

Foi uma figura muito contestada mas há que reconhecer que em apenas cinco anos fez uma obra notável de serviço social em prol dos mais necessitados. Percorreu a Argentina de norte a sul para levar conforto ao povo.

Veio à Europa na Rainbow tour, que passou por Portugal, para ver o que por cá se fazia com a ajuda social e para não repetir os mesmos erros que cá se cometiam.

“Que belos palácios que eles têm, davam para fazer bons hospitais” disse ela.

Em Espanha dirigiu-se assim às mulheres: “o nosso século não passará à história com o nome do ‘século das guerras mundiais’ nem com o nome do ‘século da desintegração atómica’ mas sim com outro nome muito mais significativo o do ‘século do feminismo vitorioso’.

Em setembro de 1947 com a lei que aprovava o voto feminino dirige-se às mulheres argentinas: “Aqui está, minhas irmãs, resumida na letra apertada de poucos artigos, uma história longa de lutas, tropeços e esperanças”.

Evita vestia agora Balmain, Rochas, Jacques Fath, Balenciaga e Dior que disse “a única rainha que vesti foi Eva Peron”. Deixava para trás os chapéus enormes, os postiços e adoptava um penteado simples mas que se tornaria a sua imagem de referência.

Depois da Rainbow tour Evita regressou outra à Argentina, mais sofisticada e com uma pressa urgente de fazer a sua obra social.

Evita nasceu a 7 de maio de 1919 e continua viva no coração de milhares: "Volveré y seré millones" “I will return and I will be a million.”

Como apontamento desta efeméride partilho aqui duas paper doll de Evita. Uma que ilustra Evita com dez outfits, chapéus, acessórios, perucas e que está assinada por vários artistas como Christine D. Scarlett, Frey, Sandra Vanderpool. A outra não tenho referência do nome do artista mas não queria por essa razão deixar de partilhá-la aqui.Até à próxima!

Sky (paper) Doll

I should start posting a series of paper dolls called Ladies from the comics pages, sometimes I find quite interesting specimens on the pages of the comics. This could be the second post on the subject ... the first was here.

Sky Doll is a Barbucci's comics character with script by Barbara Canepa. I like this series which is very balanced between the script and the drawings! The scenarios are very detailed and the characters are very well drawn.

Sky Doll is "a life-like female android without rights, who exists only to serve the State's needs and desires" - in SOLEIL: Sky Doll #1-3.

Sky Doll is an Italian comic book series first published in 2000, by Alessandro Barbucci and Barbara Canepa, who also collaborated on W.I.T.C.H. and Monster Allergy. Sky Doll distinguishes itself from these two works by its more "adult" content and a departure from pure fantasy to a more science-fiction aesthetic. Religion and science fiction, as well as the power of the mass media, are important themes of the story. So far there are four volumes, as well as a sketchbook published by Carlsen Comics. Eu poderia começar a colocar aqui uma série de paper dolls intitlado Ladies from the comics pages , porque às vezes encontro exemplares bastante interessantes nas páginas das revistas de banda desenhada. Este poderia ser o segundo post sobre o assunto ... o primeiro foi aqui. Sky Doll é um personagem de banda desenhada de Barbucci com argumento de Barbara Canepa. Eu gosto desta série que é muito equilibrada entre o roteiro e os desenhos! Os cenários são muito detalhados e os personagens são muito bem desenhados.

I love the 40's pin up look . The book comes with two paper dolls, fourteen complete outfits plus accessories including a biombo (screen) to change the outfits!

Paper dolls from the biblical stories at Easter time

I remember at Easter time, films with biblical themes were always shown on television. 

The Bible stories have always captivated me. 

I still keep my favourite book of biblical stories from my childhood illustrated in detail by Giovanni Caselli (He is a well known illustrator noted for his work regarding the classical world and its literature, art, symbol and myths... He lives in Italy).

The biblical story that perhaps most enchanted me was that of Samson and Delilah (1949) since I saw, as a child, the film by Cecil B. DeMille, starring the beautiful Hedy Lamarr and Victor Mature.

A film with a beautiful photograph and a magnificent wardrobe by Edith Head, which Mr. Tom Tierney paid tribute to in Edith Head Paper Dolls' award winning fashions, perhaps one of his latest books and one of my favourites because of the style change. verified in his last works. In this book, we find a Delilah / Hedy Lamarr paper doll that I share here. Maybe one day I will draw my version of the paper dolls from the Bible stories.

Na época da Páscoa, os filmes com temas bíblicos eram sempre exibidos na televisão. As histórias da Bíblia sempre me cativaram. Eu ainda guardo um livro de histórias biblicas da minha infância ilustrado detalhadamente por Giovanni Caselli.A história bíblica que talvez mais me encantou foi a de "Sansão e Dalila" (1949) desde que vi, quando criança, o filme de Cecil B. DeMille, protagonizado pela belissima Hedy Lamarr e por Victor Mature. Um filme com uma fotografia lindissima e um magnífico guarda-roupa de Edith Head, que o Sr. Tom Tierney prestou homenagem em Award-Winning Fashions of Edith Head Paper Dolls, talvez um de seus últimos livros que eu mais gosto devido à mudança de estilo verificado em seus últimos trabalhos. Neste livro, encontramos uma boneca de papel Delilah / Hedy Lamarr que eu compartilho aqui. Talvez um dia eu desenhe minha versão de paper dolls das histórias bíblicas.
